# Which issue does this PR close? - Closes #11689 # Rationale for this change An out-of-range dictionary index in an FLBA column currently panics during read instead of returning a Parquet error. # What changes are included in this PR? Validate decoded dictionary indices before slicing, including negative indices, and keep empty dictionaries without indices readable. Regression tests cover valid, out-of-range, negative and empty-dictionary cases. AI assistance was used for the implementation and tests. # Are these changes tested? `cargo test -p parquet`, `cargo fmt --all -- --check` and `typos --config typos.toml` passed. Clippy passed with allowances for existing toolchain lints in untouched files. # Are there any significant user-facing changes? No API change.
