# Which issue does this PR close? - N/A # Rationale for this change The shared ASF Infra `ubuntu-latest` runner pool is frequently saturated. [ASF Infra recommends using the `ubuntu-slim` pool instead](https://infra.apache.org/services.html), when possible: > Use lightweight runners: For small, short jobs, consider using runs-on: ubuntu-slim. These provide 1 vCPU, 5GB RAM, no Docker engine, and a 15-minute hard limit. They churn much more quickly during peak times, allowing you to bypass the standard ubuntu-latest queue while freeing up capacity for others. This PR moves the following CI jobs to run on `ubuntu-slim`: - Select and validate CI suites (ci.yml) - Lint (cargo fmt) (rust.yml) - Check unused dependencies (rust.yml) - Audit (audit.yml) - Spell Check with Typos (dev.yml) - deploy (docs.yml) Because `ubuntu-slim` doesn't have a Rust toolchain or a container engine, a few jobs need to be adjusted to run directly on the runner instead of inside a container, and/or to install the Rust toolchain. A new `setup-rustup` action has been added to facilitate the later. # What changes are included in this PR? See above. # Are these changes tested? CI change only. # Are there any significant user-facing changes? No. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
