(speaking to the overall direction since I haven't fully code reviewed this) I don't have any issues with adding this new field to `RecordBatch`; I was initially hesitant in adding an IPC specific field to a core struct, since we've had issues where trying to rip it out is painful: - https://github.com/apache/arrow-rs/issues/5981 it's a bit hard to try remove `dict_id` from `Field`... But this seems to have broader potential in its usecase 👍 And I don't think there's technically a "spec" for RecordBatch?
