Closing as a duplicate of https://github.com/apache/datafusion/issues/24702, which describes the same defect in the unwrap-cast-in-comparison rule (narrowing `try_cast` is unwrapped and the NULL-on-overflow semantics are lost) with a fuller analysis, including the `InList` case and the second copy of the rule in the physical expression simplifier. There is an open fix in https://github.com/apache/datafusion/pull/24713. Note for that issue: this ticket also raises plain `cast` (which should error on overflow rather than return `true`), which #24702 only mentions as a secondary question.
