I can't see any reason to think that's incorrect. One of the major hurdles Linus wanted to tackle was that what you put into the repo comes back out identically (see talk at Google). I would be unhappy if it were silently modifying my line endings without mentioning it. I can see why this is a problem for windows users, but I can't see why I'd ever change that setting or why the default should change or should be considered incorrect. I really might consider using that setting if I were writing something I really intended for windows users to use. On the other hand, in practice I usually lave it off and develop windows code on windows and then it has all the expected line endings automatically.
