No that did not work but i found a solution meanwhile. In the source code I found that the environment variable force gets evaluated. So that if I set force=yes the authorized_keys file gets rebuild: force=yes gitlab-rake gitlab:backup:restore BACKUP=<timestamp> This solves my problem.
