The Settings/Preferences item is typically for setting global application options.
(Or you could have several items in the Settings menu.)
The properties item is for editing properties of one particular object within
the application, e.g. a file. This may not be appropriate in your application.
You are free to remove any of the items you don't need, and add any others.
