That's a great initiative, Andy!

I live in Jena, where Carl Zeiss (the person) spent most of his life,
and where optics plays a key role in daily activities, largely due to
Carl Zeiss (the company) and the ecosystem of suppliers, users and
research institutes that formed around it, as well as the people
working for them (almost ten percent of the city's population). In
fact, I am looking at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetarium_Jena
out of my window while typing these lines, and Zeiss materials are a
great way to connect to other GLAM activities here, e.g.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_Museum_Jena
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phyletisches_Museum and lots more in
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategorie:Kulturdenkmal_in_Jena .

So while I do not normally edit around optics, history, places or
companies, I am available to assist others in making best use of these
materials, or in contextualizing them. I shall also be happy to join
forces with local Wikimedians or to meet Zeiss people here should that
be useful in moving these things forward.

Cheers,
d.
