Yup, as mentioned in the announce msg,

using the hdirect sources with ghc-4.00 is not recommended - use 
ghc-3.03 instead.

PS - you may have better luck with 4.00 if you compile the hdirect
sources with '-O -dcore-lint', but no guarantees.
