You need a working ghc to build a new ghc from sources.
You may try to install
http://www.haskell.org/ghc/dist/6.12.1-rc2/ghc-6.12.0.20091121-i386
-unknown-linux-n.tar.bz2 first (or an older ghc version).
With this ghc (or an older ghc) you should be able compile the sources
http://www.haskell.org/ghc/dist/6.12.1-rc2/ghc-6.12.0.20091121-src.tar.bz2
No porting should be necessary for your platform (and .hc are not
available).
