I'm not quite sure what's happened here. It looks like something might be
confused about whether it's a 32bit or 64bit compiler, but from what
you've said I can't see why.
I'd suggest that rather than spending more time looking at problems with
old versions, that you just install a more recent binary, e.g. from
http://www.haskell.org/ghc/download_ghc_7_6_1#macosxintel or
http://www.haskell.org/ghc/download_ghc_7_6_1#macosx_x86_64
