I believe it is a federal law that the prescription must be given to
the patients WITHOUT them even asking!!!

The PD, however, is a matter of state law. Some states require the
doctors to give you the PD measure with your Rx because these states
recognize without the PD measurements, you cannot have your eyeglasses
made.

If you can, call your state board and ask them. Also ask what if the
doctor refuses to give you the required Rx as stated by law?

On the other hand, taking PD measurement is not difficult. It's very
easy to do using a straight ruler with mm scales and a digital camera.
You can do it with a help from your family or a friend.

Here's how:

- Hold the the ruler straight across your face just below your eyes.
Keep it parallel to your eyes.
- Have someone take a picture of you. Measure the distance in mm
between your pupils in the picture. That's is your PD.

The good thing is that you only need to do it once. Your PD does not
change (I assume you are an adult already) for the rest of your life.

Wal-Mart used to not care about giving anyone the PD measurement, but
I think they now realize lots of people don't buy glasses from them so
they no longer give PD measurement unless, maybe, you order glasses
from them.

Don't sweat the PD. Try to do it yourself. It's much easy than you
think.

Good luck!
