One thing to consider is that even if the store glasses ARE better,
some people just can't afford them. Period. One of the great things
about online glasses is that they prevent me from going around with
glasses mended with tape for six months. (I'm thinking that it would
be great to get the word out to school nurses about online glasses,
for students that need glasses but don't have them due to cost.) I'm
sure online glasses are not for everyone, just like some people buy
clothes at Wal-Mart and some at, well, wherever. But I'm glad the
option is there.

Also, some people (me) are not careful enough with their glasses to be
willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a pair. Even if it were
proven that store glasses were better, I don't want them if they cost
more. I leave my glasses on the floor next to the bed at night, the
dog steps on them, etc. I want glasses that can get accidentally
squished in the sofa bed without it being a financial crisis.

I guess this was not really the issue in question, just thought I'd
point out that not everyone WANTS top-of-the-line. My bicycle, for
example, is a twenty-year-old bike that was free. I figure it's much
less likely to be stolen than a new bike, so I like it. In defense of
cheap stuff . . .
