Two things about this:
1) These brands at the "brick & mortar" shops are known....but known
for what really?  The most that I have seen are just designer NAMES,
that have actually no real credentials in terms of engineering great
frames as such.  It has always seemed to me that you are paying more
for a name than anything else.
2)The other thing is when you research all the frames that are out
there online-- pretty much the materials and design engineering are
all standard from one to the next.  Are the designer frames using
anything different?  Unless they say so right out front, I highly
doubt it.

Already one month ago, I bought my first pair of glasses online from
goggles4u.com.  Quality-wise they are not at all inferior to what I
had bought from Sears Optical (2 years ago)-- but cost me more than
$200 less.  Sorry, I'll never be fooled into buying another pair of
glasses in a "B&M" shop again.
