I've gotten some frames where they didn't polish the edges of the
lenses. Either they didn't offer the option, or they charged a lot
more. The lenses were thick enough to make me want to improve the side
appearance.

I found that you can polish your own edges with polishing material
like Novus (#2) plastic polish or Simichrome metal polish, on a soft
cloth. Jewelers rouge cloth might work, too, for that matter. Just be
careful not to rub past the edge onto the main surface. With oblong
lenses, this is easy, but rounder lenses might fit in more than one
position and might be trickier. Remove the lenses before polishing,
and put them back in the same position they were in before removing. I
recommend removing only one lens at a time.

Masking tape would be helpful, both for protecting the lens surface
and marking the lens and frame to know where to position the lens.

Maybe someone else who's done this can recommend an especially quick
polishing material. I remember it taking a fair amount of time, though
the improved appearance made it worth it.
