in short, units that go to distant flags will die when they become hungry because they're out of range of inns.

such as on river, if I tell a unit to go half way around the world and he's sitting at a flag and becomes hungry he will go around in random circles and die because that point is too far away from an inn to make it worth trying to go back.

Should that be a bug or game feature? by game feature it could be considered part of your strategy, you need to remember to expand your base to keep up with your attacks, you can't just dominate the whole map from one spot.
