According to the help pages,

"After you move a message to a different tab, a message above your inbox
will ask if you want to undo that action or choose to always put messages
from that sender in the tab you chose."

I haven't tested it but, assuming that message prompt is presented, it will
effect future emails from only that sender. So you'll have to train Gmail
to re-categorize emails to your liking for each sender.

I wonder if it's actually creating a filter to accomplish this.  I know
that the filter options have been expanded to allow you to apply categories
to emails as well as labels.  Maybe the prompt is just a shortcut filter
creation for categories.
