One of Gmail's greatest strengths lies in the ability to use email address
variations. Adding a '.' anywhere in the email address will still send to
the same email account. Likewise, adding a '+' and then any string of
characters does the same, Gmail simple ignores the '+' and anything after
it.

But these variations allow me to create loads of filtering options to keep
my email tidy. This is wonderful.

Not to my complaint. When email is sent to one of these email address
variations, that variation of my email address is added as a contact in my
list. Worse yet, when I attempt to write an email to myself (as a reminder,
for example) I am given a long list of variations of my email. I find
myself purging my contact list of these variations on occasion, but this is
a short term solution.

Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening?

  Thanks for reading!
