So, are you certain that Google has received the request/suggestion to use a freeware control for font? Did you suggest it through the official channels more than once?
This forum is great for soliciting ideas, or support for your ideas, but since it's not an official Google channel, you can't be certain that they know what people want. I personally, for ideas I had in the past, drafted my idea here and asked others to suggest it, while I myself suggested it. Many of those ideas became options, at least closely resembling my suggestion.
