Ok, with a fresh checkout I can reproduce this as well.

This makes me wonder if compilation without texinfo is possible at all.
Both automake and texinfo come from GNU and it can well be that systems
without texinfo are an impossibility for GNU people :)
Maybe I'll research a bit on this tomorrow.
