Ok, that patch got things building on Mac OS X 10.5.8. Here's what I
submitted to Fink, including a reformatted version of this patch:
https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=414256&aid=3033709&group_id=17203

Now I'm trying gmerlin-avdecoder1-1.0.2 and it barfs on ./configure:

./autogen.sh
-n doing aclocal...
done
-n doing libtoolize...
done
-n doing autoheader...
done
-n doing autoconf...
done
-n doing automake...
done
You can now run ./configure
LIBRARY_PATH="/sw/lib:$LIBRARY_PATH" ./configure --prefix=/sw --
disable-gmerlin --enable-libavcodec --enable-libpostproc --enable-
libswscale --enable-libavformat --enable-theora --enable-speex --
disable-mjpegtools --enable-vorbis --disable-libmpeg2 --enable-libtiff
--enable-openjpeg --disable-samba --enable-libpng --enable-faad2 --
enable-dvdread --enable-flac --enable-musepack --enable-mad --enable-
liba52 --enable-libdca --enable-libcdio --disable-win32 --with-
avcodec=/sw --with-avformat=/sw --with-vorbis=/sw --with-faad2-prefix=/
