Ok, I played a bit with that River.mp4 and concluded, that it's broken. ffplay also screws up. vlc plays it fine, not sure how they do it. Since it's the first mp4 I saw, which is broken that way, I blame the file. Normally I can decode all kinds of mp4/mov quite well.
