- - generated manpages don't have a proper "whatis" entry
it seems like "whatis" entries are generated by the convention, that the
.NAME section includes the "name" of the application, followed by a dash
"-" followed by a terse description (the whatis entry)
in debian i fixed this by patching the sources to additionally add the
.DESCRIPTION fields (which are luckily quite short) as whatis entries.

- - generated manpages don't have dashes properly escaped
the manpages are full with "-" which should be replaced by "\-"
the fix in deployment is quite simple, as i only pipe the output of
- -help-man through a sed script.
otoh, it would be nice if this was unneccessary.
