Hi Paul, Sorry for the delay, I am just now catching up on email after a vacation.
This *should* be fixed in GMime 2.4.26. There was a block of code in GMime's decoder that assumed that if the charset in an encoded-word was marked UTF-8 that it was really UTF-8 and didn't bother to validate it. That was fixed for 2.4.26 (in fact, it's the only fix between 2.4.25 and 2.4.26).
