You should provide us with the information requested in the "reporting
bugs" section of the manual:

Your use of "/media/sf_edrive/" indicates that you are using a
VirtualBox "shared folder", i.e., a folder within the Windows file
system that's shared with your virtual machine. Shared folders have
sometimes been problematic for me. (Unfortunately I cannot recall any
details.)
I suggest that you try installing gmp on your "local" drive and test
it. That should make it clear as to whether-or-not it's a shared folder
issue. (In fact, I'm surprised that you haven't installed it in some
place like /usr/local/...)
