I poked around on getgnash.org and found the answer to my
question--and a bug/change needed. The facts as I understand them:
1. mozilla-plugin-gnash was the name of the old mozilla plugin
package up to v0.8.8
2. browser-plugin-gnash seems to be the name of the new mozilla
plugin package (there's still a konqueror-plugin-gnash in
v0.8.9~git.master1918)
3. In synaptic, the gnash-common package v0.8.9~git.master1918
Properties->Dependencies,
"Suggests: mozilla-plugin-gnash (=0.8.9~git.master1918)"
4. In synaptic, the browser-plugin-gnash package
v0.8.9~git.master1918 Properties->Dependencies,
"Depends: gnash (=0.8.9~git.master1918)
Conflicts: mozilla-plugin-gnash"
5. In synaptic, the gnash package v0.8.9~git-master1918
Properties->Dependencies,
"Depends: gnash-common (=0.8.9~git-master1918)"
I think the missing link is that gnash-common should now suggest
browser-plugin-gnash (instead of mozilla-plugin-gnash).
