The hinge style of the current lemote would not allow much of a larger
battery. Increasing the length is not an option and increasing the
diameter would keep the screen from opening, or as Zhangfx points out, be
unasthetic or awkward. The hinge is a convenient place for the battery
but not that expandable.
Adding larger battery capacity would be something nice for future models.
If the motherboard for the 8.9" were put in a 14" case with a
corresponding display, there would still be place on the bottom, side or
front of the unit for battery bays.
The Macbooks, iBooks, etc of several generations have flat packs that fit
under the bottom. A Dell I had from the 1990's had two bays accessible
from the front which could be used to contain battery packs.
