The software in gNewSense 2.x is old and the packages in the upcoming
3.0 aren't brand spanking new either. By building the distribution on a
stable basis (Ubuntu LTS and Debian stable) we can focus our efforts on
software freedom rather than functionality bugs. A newer version of the
office suite might provide some freedom advantages, but that doesn't
warrant the effort of properly backporting it.
