It should be possible to make it work, depending on your exact model (MacBooks before the late 2008 models use Atheros chipsets, while late 2008 are now using Broadcom 4322 chipsets), and assuming that that you have a sufficiently recent kernel. gNewSense is still using 2.6.24, though, which is probably too old.
