Hi!

Has anyone been able to run newer games on gngeo, such as rage of the
dragons and Matrimalee? I tried to edit the romrc for rotd, actually I
copied the one from garou and deleted the line about the rotd_p2.rom.( I
changed the file names in the rom archive of course) the game loads but
I cant get past the stage that expalains how to fight. I hear the sounds
and that is it. And no into plays, No graphics in short. only the insert
coin( and coin insertion works and start button also works) sound works
but now sound.

The problem with these games is that they are crypted one. And even if some
decrypted roms exist, it seems they have some new protection.
The support of these roms in gngeo is partial and experimental, and since
they are really recent game, supporting them is not my priority.
But if your are lucky, and with some work with the romrc, it may work.

I guessed that since they are supported in kawaks, and some other emus, then they must be playble. I didn`t know if gngeo supported the encrypted roms.
After you`ve beaten Samurai Shodown 4 million times then you are looking for new excelent games, and amazingly they keep coming out for neo-geo.
Thank you very much for your work on the gngeo, its very cool to have it, since I dont even have windows in dual boot, to use other emus. Thanks again.

Anyone have any idea about format of romrc?

Here is some info about the format (I don't have it in front
of me, and I may forget some detail)
The first line define the game:
game ShortName RomType "LongName"
ShortName is by convention the name of the rom in mame (must be less than
8char)
RomType is MVS or MGD2 (depend of the dump, must be MVS for you)
LongName is the desc of the game.

Then come sections:
SECTION_TYPE sizeOfTheSection
romFileName offset size type
END

type is NORM for all section but GFX (GFX rom are interleaved)

if romFileName is "-" then gngeo use the last opened romfile

The difficult part is to guess the layout of the rom. There is
4 or 5 typical layout.

If I found some time I'll write a better doc on the romrc format and the
different layout.

that could be a start for some experimenting.
