*************************************************************** Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee Linux User Group http://dlslug.org/ a chapter of GNHLUG - http://gnhlug.org *************************************************************** The next regular monthly meeting of the DLSLUG will be held: Thursday, June 5th, 7-9PM at: Dartmouth College, Haldeman Room 041 All are welcome, free of charge. Agenda 7:00 Sign-in, networking 7:15 Introductory remarks 7:20 Remote Access, Data Replication, and File Encryption with FUSE presented by Bill Stearns Filesystems used to be constrained in features by what could be safely accomplished within the Linux kernel. With FUSE (Filesystems in User SpacE) it's now possible to present almost any kind of vaguely hierarchical information as a mountable filesystem. Examples include compressed archives, database tables, automatic conversion of file types on access, automatic virus scanning on access, and much more. Bill Stearns will be covering 3 FUSE filesystems. SSHFS allows you to mount a remote machine's files using an SSH mount. Glusterfs replicates your files on multiple remote systems, providing RAID-like replication at a file level. Finally encfs provides file-level encryption. Bill is a System Administrator at Dartmouth College and consultant for Intelguardians. He is a content author and faculty member at the SANS Institute, teaching both the Linux System Administration and Perimeter Security tracks. Bill's background is in network and operating system security; he was the chief architect of one commercial and two open source firewalls and is an active contributor to multiple projects in the Linux development effort. His spare time is spent coordinating and feeding a major antispam blacklist, and assisting the technical community as a volunteer Incident Handler for the Internet Storm Center. Bill's articles and tools can be found in SysAdmin magazine, online journals, and at http://www.stearns.org. 8:50 Roundtable Exchange - where the attendees can make announcements or ask a linux question of the group. ----- Driving Directions Please see the website for links to driving directions.
