Agenda 7:00 Sign-in, networking 7:15 Introductory remarks 7:20 Improving Linux Disk Performance presented by Bill Stearns We'll cover some common disk performance problems and show some practical solutions: adding RAM, ionice, noatime, journal options, tmpfs and ramdisk, RAID, defragmentation, swappiness, RAM and flash media, and different filesystems. While some are involved and take some planning ahead, a few others are one or two line changes that can quickly improve responsiveness and bandwidth. Anyone is welcome to attend. While some of the concepts apply to other operating systems, the practical steps are specific to Linux. Bill is a System Administrator at Dartmouth College and consultant for Intelguardians.
