I was running 1.2.1 (or was it 1.2.3?) on SuSE 7.3 on a dual P-II SMP system (Asus P2L97-DS mobo) with 384MB of memory. I frequently saw symptoms of memory leaks - downloads that would hang the entire client (i.e., no response to my mouse; had to go to an xterm window and kill the processes), certain combinations of actions would either not perfom the stipulated action, or would totally hang Mozilla. Problems were in their bug database, more or less. (It's my conjecture that the underlying problems reported in the bug database manifested themselves in the symptoms that I saw, however those bugs were marked as fixed in 1.3, and I heartily agree. 1.3 feels VERY stable by comparison.
BTW, my symptoms were also seen on SuSE 8.0 and Mozilla 1.2.3 and disappeared there (on my Asus A7M266-D mobo, dual AMD MP1800+ and 1GB memory) when I went to Mozilla 1.3. I did not try, nor am I inclined to try, Mozilla 1.2.3 on the dual P-II system that has since been re-installed with "SuSE Linux Office Desktop" which is SuSE 8.1 with some apps, but is NOT SuSE 8.1 Professional. I am running Mozilla 1.3 on the latter right now, and it's stable, too.
HTH,
Bayard
