I've run into this with SuSE as well. Seems once you've mounted it with
the lock set, the OS remembers the lock setting and will not let you
remount it read/write, even after you flick the switch.

A reboot fixes this. I *think* using modprobe to unload and reload the
appropriate drivers will fix it as well, but its been a while since I've
tried it.
