As much as I love running stuff on my own server, I have found
livejournal to be fantastic. Mostly for features I can get from running
my own, including:
friends list
sane commenting (threaded)
ability to block bad comments
friends only and private posts
that said:
http://freshmeat.net/projects/myjournal/
http://freshmeat.net/projects/microblogger/
http://freshmeat.net/projects/discloser/
all look good.

Hi all, I'm looking for another software suggestion.
I have a friend that's going on a several month trip through Central
America and would like to have a fairly simple blog set up for them so
they can keep us folks back home up to date with what's going on.
Requirements:
- Web based (no having to ssh in to update a blog entry or anything)
- Simple to use
- Lightweight (not looking for a *nuke type application)
- Usable by low bandwidth connections
Any suggestions?
