You forgot to mention RFC-1149 (http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1149.html). SMTP to port 25 will almost[1] *definitely* work this way, since afaik, not a single ISP anywhere has figured out how to block this protocol yet. [1] I say "almost" simply because I have not personally tested this theory.
