Newegg has a Syba 4 port SATA card for $20. It's not SATA II and only 150 Gb/s. It's internal also. I've used it with 42" cables outside the box. You can get SATA-eSATA adapters. It works well with Linux. Solaris needs a flash to remove the RAID option. I've used Addonics 4 port cards also. They have a 4 port eSATA. They're closer to $100. They also make a 4 bay external storage tower for SATA drives around $160. I'm just looking for something simple to use with an external hard drive > that has an eSATA port. eSATA is basically SATA with a different connector and maybe a layer of shielding. I haven't had an issue with using adapters and regular, cheaper, SATA cables.
