For the October 2007 meeting of SLUG (Seacoast/UNH/Durham), Rob Anderson will be presenting "InkScape: When bitmaps are not good enough". === About InkScape === InkScape is an Open Source vector graphics editor. Vector graphics are made up of objects that describe an image. As such, they are resolution-independent, resizing without distortion. The component objects remain separate objects after placement, making them easy to edit and manipulate later. This is in contrast to bitmap/raster graphics (e.g., GIMP), where images are made up of a simple, flat grid of dots. InkScape uses W3C standard SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) for its native file format. SVG is itself just XML. InkScape buzzword features include transparency, gradients, node editing, pattern fills, and PNG export. It also has features which make creating a vector graphic based on a bitmap much easier. InkScape is available for *nix, MS Windows, and MacOSX. Other, comparable vector graphics programs include Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, and Xara X. For more information, visit: http://www.inkscape.org/ === About SLUG === SLUG is the Seacoast Linux User Group, and is a chapter of GNHLUG, the Greater NH Linux User Group. Rob Anderson is the SLUG coordinator. SLUG meets the second Monday of every month, same time, same place. You can find out more about SLUG and GNHLUG at the http://slug.gnhlug.org/ and http://www.gnhlug.org/ websites. Meetings take place starting at 7:00 PM. Meetings are open to all. The meeting proper ends around 9ish, but it's not uncommon to find hangers-on there until 10 or later. They take place in Room 301 (the third floor conference room), of Morse Hall, at the University of New Hampshire, in Durham. _______________________________________________ gnhlug-announce mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-announce/ _______________________________________________ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss/
