For those who haven't heard about it yet, I just came across this
description of a free Flash player called Gnash.
Gnash is a GNU Flash movie player. Previously, it was only
possible to play flash movies with proprietary software. While
there are some other free flash players, none support anything
beyond SWF v4. Gnash is based on GameSWF, and supports many SWF v7
features.
The first beta release of Gnash has just been made at version
0.8.2 on March 5, 2008.

The page states that Gnash can be run standalone, or as a
Mozilla/Konqueror plugin for viewing streaming video a la YouTube.
