If someone already has Ubuntu installed, you can get KDE of Xfce by apt-get install'ing the kubuntu-desktop or xubuntu-desktop respectively. Although a little dated, I learned about these options from an Ubuntu wiki page about adding a GUI to an Ubuntu Server install at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ServerGUI -Shawn
