  I agree.  I think the idea of a "hands-on" meeting is worth trying
further.  For example, consider wireless.  Last night, the primary goal was
to get a network, and it turned out that a wired network was easier.  But
consider a meeting with the designated purpose of "Getting to know
wireless".  Everyone who is interested, bring their laptop and their
wireless cards.  A presentation on how it should work, combined with
actually setting up a wireless LAN, sounds very interesting.  We could make
sure we had all the needed software (kernel, pcmcia-cs, iwconfig, etc.) on
hand ahead of time, and people could be sure to bring their distro disks.

  It certainly seems like it might be worth trying.  Perhaps we should float
