-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 ~From what I read of the site, the ISTO appears to be more of a 501(c)(6) [lobbying organization] than a "for the community" non-profit. This is reasonable for the IEEE, but is it reasonable for GNHLUG? ISTO does not appear to have any prior involvement with user groups.
Perhaps "we" can use their services when we want to do some lobbying or need insurance or some such. I'd prefer to wait before joining some program like this until LI gets its user group program together to see what that looks like. Although, if the LI program is going to be a 501(c)(6) too, then its probably going to be very similar. But I don't see why we can't go ahead with our own 501(c)(3) filing though. - --Bruce Bill McGonigle wrote: | I came across this, ISTO - an offshoot of the IEEE which is either | something like what we hope to be or we were hoping Linux | International might be (at the AutumnalSummit2005): | | http://www.ieee-isto.org/faqs.html#5 | | The good news is we seem to have identified most of the potential | issues during our stumbings through the woods.
