At the last board meeting we talked about how an Installfest would go these days, so I asked Jerry for feedback on his @MIT. He didn't specifically object to my request to share the feedback here. ;)

Would you or somebody else be able to do a brief summary of how it went? We've talked about it at GNHLUG board meetings but have been uncertain if the demand is there.

We had about 8 or 9 people installing on their systems. Most were
successful to some extent. We have 1 installfest regular who just
bought a Vaio and installed Ubuntu himself. We then helped him install
VirtualBox OSE and a paid for copy of Windows XP. Unfortunately, we
could not get sound working on his Vaio. Several others installed
VMWare of VirtualBox. David worked with a group of 3 guys from the same
company who needed virtualization for different reasons. They were all
successful. What 1 guy wanted to do was to create a paired down SuSE
release on a memory stick. The only guy we couldn't do anything for was
the guy who showed up at 4:30. The important thing is to get some
volunteers who know what they are doing, and we have been pretty
successful there. The total revenue was $185. We ask for $25, most
people happily give us $25 without asking.
