Hello all I am about to start what I expect to be a very time consuming project to find out why my 16 bit SB Pro sound card won't let me do 16 bit sound input under linux. While I don't claim to have done all of the easy research into this, I've done enough that I think this mail to the list is warranted. If anybody on the list can do 16 bit sound input and cares, I'd love to hear from you major device numbers minor device numbers useful ioctls experience with sound recording programs experience with voice recognitionprograms liek cvoicecontrol oe kvoicecontrol etc. Please feel free to respond by private email. When I get it working or give up I'll post summary information to the list. My microphone does 8 bit fine, but not 16 bit. All of the 16 bit software I've tried report no errors, it they just don't get data. Sixteen bit output works fine. The card is a genuine Creative Labs SB Pro 16. dmesg seems to indicate that it should work. It fails even when I try it as root.
