Welcome, nothing wrong with being a newbie, we all were at one point
(heck, I'm not all that knowledgable myself, but, as I was taught in
college, it's not knowing the answers, it's knowing where to find the
answers). I'm redirecting to the technical / non-org list
([EMAIL PROTECTED]). It's where to go to ask questions outside of
the organization of GNHLUG itself. If you check on www.gnhlug.org,
there's a link to the archive of the list. Good for searching for
answers to questions. Of course, don't let that stop you from asking
here.

a M$ shop that also runs NetWare. I've got a dual-boot at home w/two
drives, one running Win98/2, which is mainly for the rest of the
family, and Red Hat 6.1 and Star Office on the other. Working up the
guts to install Oracle8i soon.

Good luck on the Oracle8i install. I've used PostgreSQL (comes with
Red Hat), very easy to use, in some respects more advanced (not
complete implementation of SQL-92, but they've started implementing
SQL-99). There's a new 7.0 version out that I'm looking forward to
trying. Another good DB is MySQL. Doesn't come with RH, but go to
www.mysql.com and you can get it. Lots of web sites use it
(slashdot.org for one), as it's very fast.

Install had a couple of hiccups, but I think my past experience with
VMS and DCL actually might have helped. Running Gnome and if I can
have just one little freebie answer to something, how can I make the
font size bigger on my screen? Just got bifocals, and being an old
man I need bigger letters on that baby.

Quick answer (blatently pulled from the list earlier, the archives
are wonderful):
Open the GNOME Main Menu (the "foot" icon)
Choose "Settings", and then "GNOME Control Center"
Under "Desktop", choose the "Theme Selector"
Under "User Font", enable "Use custom font"
Click the button, and choose a font with a bigger size

much info and tips in the week to ten days I've been on the list as
I've had from the RH manuals and other docs so far. I stand ready to
help out with any possible assistance I can provide.
