Hi Everyone,
I have had a number of inquiries following my past posting so here is some
more info on the Speakers. So far the Committee is planning for Greg to do
his full presentation then later in the day join Jeff Smith and Jeff Dike
on a Linux technical panel. I will be on a recruiting panel. As we know
from our own show nothing is written in stone until the last attendee
leaves and the lights go out. This is the thinking the speakers committee
reported to the Planning meeting on Tuesday. There will be coverage of this
event in the Boston Globe, NH Business, Mass High Tech.

Speaker: Gregory Kettmann, IBM Global Services, IT Architect
Title: "Development in the Open Source and Linux Environment a Management
Perspective".
Speaker:
Jeff Dike graduated from MIT in 1986, at which point he started work at
Digital's Unix group. In 1993, he became an independent contractor. He
started working on the Linux kernel in Feb. 1999.
Abstract:
User-mode Linux (http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net) is a port of the
Linux kernel which allows you to run Linux inside Linux. It provides a
virtual Linux machine running on Linux, and potentially other operating
systems. This talk will describe some of the many uses of this tool, such
as
sandboxing potentially hostile processes or potentially insecure services,
virtual hosting, kernel and driver development, virtual networking and
clustering, and as a Linux environment for other operating systems. It
will
also discuss the mechanics of setting up and running user-mode Linux.
Speaker: Jeff Smith, Technical Sales Director, Mission Critical Linux, Inc.

Recent Advances in Linux Clustering

Linux offers many advantages for those who desire low-cost, high-end
computing. However, issues concerning Linux's ability to cost-effectively
deliver high availability with complete data integrity have in the past
created a significant barrier to making Linux a serious contender in the
enterprise. Jeff Smith, Technical Sales Director of Mission Critical Linux,
will
discuss how new advances in Linux clustering technology can offer high
availability and eliminate data corruption at a price-point attractive to
enterprise-class companies in industries ranging from finance to retail, as
well as Web-related businesses such as ASPs and e-commerce ventures. Mr.
Smith will highlight how this recent Open Source technology goes beyond
"heartbeat" node monitoring to allow for high availability and data
integrity on commodity hardware-based Linux configurations.
