At the GNHLUG meeting wednesday there was a Caldera give away.
I am looking for any feedback from other victims of this OS.
I will say the auto sensing part is nice (auto magically found the
networked printers and NIS domain)
This is unique because it was before the install was complete.
That would be if the install ever did complete.
The really weird part is (vs redhat) is the packages begin to install
before all parameters are set.
i.e. ip data ,time zone ect......
The clunk clunk of the process is very painful at this point .pages take
minutes to update.
the install takes hours and has died three times.
The first time I installed I simply clicked thru using all recommended
fields selecting all packages was my only deviation.
the second time was straight up all defaults. (obvious changes were made
for time et)
the third time I partitioned the disk by hand and selected mim install
pkgs. all hung like a bat.
I installed it in on a pentium mmx 200 with 64 meg and a 4.2 g hard
drive.
This is a fine system that has installed many redhat versions.
I like the look of the pages but the function is low.
Please show me the error of my ways.
