Woops. I do not believe that you were. (Thank you for correcting me,
and apology for any unwarranted inference.) I was troubled by how hard
it is to stay sympathetic with new users, and was wondering (anew) about
the changing role of organizations such as GNHLUG as more and more of
the unaware begin to learn of Linux.

I was hoping for a thoughtful discussion to ensue. And it did. Thank you
to everyone who wrote.

As far as placards in Wal-Mart are concerned, I admitted to start with that
it was an idea which might not fly. It was only a suggestion that unless
we had TRIED it (and every other idea) "nothing" was not yet the right word.
(Again, I'm not saying Ben was advocating doing nothing for newbies, only
trying to examine whether we as a group wanted, or should want, to be
doing more than we are.) Other ideas were suggested in the ensuing discussion,
and most of them seem to be better than mine.

Now we form a "Retail Support Activities Committee", right? :)

(Actually, in the real world the answer may be No, we do not have enough
time to do these things. I myself am somewhat skeptical. But choosing
to not do things is different from "nothing we can do"...)
