Subject: Dell drops support for Linux on desktops, laptops

What does it mean to get Linux preinstalled on a Dell desktop?
Seriously. Does it mean they will preinstall and support Debian, Progeny,
SuSE,
Red Hat, Mandrake, etc. or only a selected distros. The latter obviously
and that means you have reduced the potential for some preinstall sales.

Personally, I would rather just get the machine without an OS or with
sufficient info to know the hardware will work and install what I want the
way I want it. I suspect my approach is somewhat common among Linux users
and makes or a difficult sell by major vendors.

It will be used by some to say Linux on the desktop is a failure.

Yes, I am at work and using Win98 because I need certain Win apps. However,
it dual boots into Debian and I rather prefer the Gnome desktop all things
considered.
