Yes, this is a important feature, but for your information there are already a application with this feature. It is implemented as a applet on the gnome-panel. It is being included in most of the linux distributions that include gnome. A rough explanation of how to install it: 1. Put your mouse on your panel 2. Right click 3. Add to panel 4.
